A nutritious Oatmeal Smoothie is the most delicious and full morning smoothie dish I’ve ever encountered! I’m delighted to share this recipe with you. These oat smoothies have a similar flavor to blueberry muffins and peach cobbler. How a blended beverage can taste like a baked item is nearly odd, but it does…these do!


For a few years, I’d seen oatmeal smoothie recipes, but I never felt motivated to try adding raw oats to my usual smoothie foundation of frozen fruit and yogurt.

Then there was my two-year-old daughter, who decided that she didn’t want to eat anything except cheese popcorn, cheese sandwiches, cheese quesadillas, peanut butter crackers, and the rare apple slice at the tender age of two. People, we’re talking about breakfast, lunch, and supper. She cheerfully ate a broad range of fruits and vegetables as a baby? Her taste buds, on the other hand, seem to have taken a break from those tastes. So I had to be creative to keep the obstinate girl from living only on carbohydrates and cheese until her interest in stepping outside of the beige-to-orange color pallet resurfaced.

Because she drank a smoothie most days, I figured I’d slip in some oats, which seemed like a more appropriate breakfast than cheddar popcorn. What’s more, you know what? She was taken in by it and enjoyed it! And, to be honest, so did my older children…and so did I. Since then, I’ve been creating oat smoothies.


Oat Smoothies Have a Lot of Benefits

They’re thick and smooth, and they’re considerably heartier, so they’ll keep you satisfied for longer.

A basic fruit smoothie with oats has more fiber, protein, and some vitamins and minerals.

They’re also delicious! I’ve tried throughout the years to build upon those tastes even more since the oats offer an undertone like some form of baked food is crushed up in there!


To prepare a healthful, tasty Oatmeal Smoothie, you just need a few simple ingredients:


  • Oats. Regular (old-fashioned) rolled oats are what I usually use. You may easily substitute quick oats (because they’ll be mixed up in your blender anyhow). Keep in mind that since quick oats are finer than rolled oats (and hence pack more into a measuring cup), you may want to start with somewhat less than the 12 cup recommended for in this recipe.
  • Fruit that has been frozen. The flavors of blueberries and peaches are accentuated in this dish, but you may use whatever frozen fruit you choose. If you’re looking for some ideas, scroll down to the “Flavors” tab below. I highly suggest using frozen fruit in place of ice for a refreshing, cool smoothie. I usually purchase frozen fruit in bags to store in the freezer, but if I have fresh fruit that’s overripe or ready to go bad, I’ll wash it, chop it up, put it in a baggie, and freeze it for smoothies in the future.
  • Yogurt with vanilla flavor. Depending on your preferences, you may use full milk, low-fat milk, or Greek yogurt. You might also use a non-dairy yogurt instead. If you want to use plain yogurt instead of vanilla, increase the honey and vanilla slightly to compensate.
  • Milk. Use your preferred variety, however I suggest beginning with an unsweetened option. When creating smoothies, I usually use unsweetened almond milk, but you may also use conventional (whole/2 percent /skim) milk, oat milk, or just about any mild-flavored non-dairy milk.
  • Honey. Depending on the sweetness of your selected fruit and whether or not your yogurt and/or milk are sweetened, you may adjust the quantity of honey used. However, if you don’t want to use honey, that’s OK.
  • Cinnamon and pure vanilla extract To make a standard Oatmeal Smoothie taste like a baked dessert, just add a dab of pure vanilla extract and a sprinkle of cinnamon. To simulate any baked dish that generally has more cinnamon, the quantity of cinnamon should be significantly increased (such as peach cobbler, as explained in the recipe card).


How to Make a Smoothie with Oatmeal

  1. To begin, pulse your oats in a blender until they are finely ground. The idea is to use ground oats for nutrition and thickness without getting bits of whole oats through your straw.
  2. There’s no need to clean the blender after this. Simply combine the remaining ingredients in a blender and mix until smooth.


That’s all there is to it! Quick and simple.

I’m telling you, it’s hard to think smoothies can taste like baked goods, but they really do!

  • Blend the oats in a blender. Blend until a fine powder is formed.

  • Frozen fruit, vanilla yogurt, milk, honey, vanilla, and cinnamon are combined in a bowl. Blend until the mixture is absolutely smooth. Serve right away.


  • Nonfat, lowfat, standard, or Greek vanilla yogurt may all be used. If you’re using plain yogurt instead of vanilla, you may need to increase the honey and vanilla extract in your smoothie somewhat.
  • You may use full milk, 2% milk, skim milk, almond milk, oat milk, or any other non-dairy milk you choose.
  • Feel free to try other varieties of frozen fruit as a substitute.
  • If the baked dish you’re imitating has a stronger cinnamon flavor, add extra cinnamon in your smoothie. When I prepare a Blueberry Muffin Smoothie, for example, I use 14 tsp of cinnamon. When I make a Peach Cobbler Smoothie, however, I use 12 tsp of cinnamon.
